Ball size and vehicle weight
Ball size varies by trailer. The motorcycle and 5x8 trailers take a 1-7/8 or 2 in. ball rated at least 2,000 lbs. The auto transport needs a 2 in. ball, and the tow dolly a 2 in. ball rated at least 3,500 lbs. U-Haul also checks your vehicle: its trailer user instructions tie the loaded trailer to your vehicle's curb weight. See each trailer's page for its rule, and what size hitch for my trailer for non-rental trailers.
